Saippuaa Suomesta!

I'm practicing my Finnish! =)

This week went by too fast :(  Too much work and not enough time to do much else. However, I received these two lovely packages in the mail from Finland a couple of days ago, and it suddenly made my week so much better :D

The first package contained these 2 gorgeous soaps from Marika at www.kotikemistinpienipaja.blogspot.com

They smell divine and the colors are gorgeous! I love the droplet effect swirl in the mango butter soap, and the hanger swirl technique she used in the pomegranate vanilla soap is amazing…I love it! I am a sucker for milks and butters in soap, and both of these soaps contain milk and butter….I can’t wait to try these out! :D

These next 2 soaps were from Eija at www.eijankudonta.blogspot.com. I absolutely adored her packaging! Each soap was wrapped in tissue with a torn page from a book wrapped around it and tied with twine…so charming!

 Unwrapped:

The soap on the left is a soap made with lavender water…what a nice idea! I was able to translate the ingredients as olive oil, canola oil, coconut oil, palm oil, shea butter, almond oil and  lavender water. The soap on the right is made with olive oil, canola oil, coconut oil, palm oil, shea butter, castor oil, kultapiisku (flower) water and is fragranced with an apple scent…it smells so good, like a giant apple cookie! I am so in love with them both!

Thank you both for these lovely soaps, I have enjoyed this swap so much. Thank you Marika for organizing it! I had a rough week, so these were definitely a highlight for me :)

By the way, this was my first chance to play with the photo editing program PicMonkey, which Amy & Amy recommended in my earlier photo tutorial blog post. I really like this program and will definitely keep playing around with it….it’s super user friendly and has all the features I need without being overwhelming, so thanks for the great recommendation =)

  1. I´m so glad it didn´t take 7 weeks for my soaps to get to Canada. Hope you enjoy them. I sure have enjoyed your soaps. I have almost used the first one.
If you wanted to say "soaps from Finland", change it to "Saippuaa Suomesta". Now it says something lika soaps starting from Finland :D :D :D

    1. Thank you, I was hoping you would check it and correct me! Obviously, I need to keep practicing my Finnish :D I am so excited to use your and Eija's soaps, too bad I can only take 1 at a time into the shower! :(

    2. Maby one soap for Monday, one for Tuesday and so on? :)
Finnish is a very difficult language and the words can get so long. Like something you would say in English in five words, you would say i Finnish in only one word. Strange, isn´t it?

    3. You asked earlier if pureed mango discolors the soap. Now you can see for yourself :) The soap with mango butter and goat milk contains pureed mango and the only color I put in it was the orange for the swirls or droplets.

    4. It definitely sounds like a challenging language to learn, but it's sure a beautiful language. Oh, how I wish I was multilingual!

I'm amazed at the mango puree, it didn't discolor at all! At what point did you add it to the soap, or was it mixed in with the goat milk?

    5. In this soap i mixed the fresh mango at trace. I wanted to make a full goat milk soap and did not discount the mango from the liquids. I´ve tried it earlier and it works just fine. Normally I freeze all fruits that are for soaping.

  2. Wow, I am really impressed by this mango soap of Marika!I know these 2 ingredients colour the soap , but not in this case. Maybe Marika put her soap in fridge? Anyway, her soaps are lovely and it seems that she sent for every swap different soaps !!WOW!!
I love the packaging of Eija also, so original! And the lavender water should make the soap so precious, I bet you can't wait to use them :)

    1. Natalia, I sent different soaps to you and Maja because we decided to do different soaps than what we decided with Cee, Eija and Gordana.

    2. I am impressed with how light and creamy colored her full goat milk soap stayed too, it's just lovely!

  3. Wow, so many soaps to try now,Cee! I have the same problem here: received four at once (from Belgium and Finland) and now I don't know which one I should start with.
This mango soap really intrigues me, just as this lavender water soap! They sound luxurious, I wonder how they feel like on skin.

Yes,PicMonkey is so interesting, I used it for making photo collages but I wish I could find an editor which gives an option of changing background on the picture (not to cut it,but to change it). PhotoShop seems to be one with that option, but has only one disadvantage- it costs :-(

    1. Have you heard of GIMP? I believe it's very similar to PhotoShop but is open-source and free to use: GIMP

    3. Thanks ladies,I will check it out later and report back how I find it!

    4. Yes, please let me know what you think of it! I've never used Photoshop, so I can't compare, but I've heard that Gimp has a lot of the same features. It will be interesting to see what you think of it.

    5. Marika - have you used Photoshop too, and is GIMP similar?

    6. I have used Photoshop several years ago, but didn´t like it. Gimp is similar, but much easier to use.

    7. That's good to know, I should give it another try. It seems a little intimidating to use, but I should probably try to learn how to use it :)

  4. Grate soaps, indeed! I also can’t decide which one to try first :)
When it comes to photography there is big room for improvement for me. Thanks God I finally found the place in my house where I can take pictures. It is still challenging to me but up to now, for editing purpose, I used only crop option (to remove background). However I finally realized that I need better camera. Thank you for sharing PicMonkey! It seems that it offers so many opportunities for collages creation.

    1. I love doing collages too, so I'm excited to try this option in PicMonkey. The camera definitely makes a big difference, and it doesn't have to be a super-expensive camera either which is nice, but it's hard to know until you try them out. My favorite camera so far was a Pentax, it was nothing fancy but it took such good pictures, I really miss it :(

  7. How lovely! Soap swap, what a wonderful idea especially at this time of year, it's almost like Christmas came early. :)

Did I miss what you sent them in return?

  10. 3 Studies SHOW Why Coconut Oil Kills Waist Fat.

The meaning of this is that you literally burn fat by consuming Coconut Fat (also coconut milk, coconut cream and coconut oil).

These 3 studies from big medicinal journals are sure to turn the conventional nutrition world around!
