Plumeria & Pomegranate

Thank you to those of you who voted on my Facebook poll! Plumeria & Pomegranate and Red Currant and Thyme were tied, I realized that I inadvertently voted for Plumeria and Pomegranate and that is why it was registering ahead...doh! I am still hoping to make the Red Current and Thyme before the weekend is over; meanwhile, here is the Plumeria & Pomegranate out of the mold:

I just recently discovered Cherry Kernel Oil, and I haven't tried a new soaping oil in a while so decided to give this one a try.  It's similar in properties to sweet almond oil and peach kernel oil; it is a light and emollient oil, used in soap to provide conditioning and stable lather. I used it at 13% in this soap.

The swirl turned out more tie-dyed, because I dropped and drizzled the colors on top and then swirled them, rather than doing lines of color and then swirling, like I have done before. I actually made a video of how I did the tops, but I have no clue how to edit and upload it...lol!

I blended Plumeria f.o. and Pomegranate f.o. for this soap, I had both fragrance oils and while they were nice separately, there were a bit too one-note on their own. I like the complexity that came out of mixing these two together; it's more like a sugared plumeria or a flowery pomegranate now.

What soapmaking oils have you not tried yet that you would like to try? I would also like to try babassu and argan oils...those are the only other ones on my list so far :)

  1. Lovely soap,Cee, and the fragrance should be delicious!
I like argan oil a lot, I use to add it at trace! Babassu butter, never tried but I am dreaming of testing mango butter and aloe butter in soap ;)
Thank you Cee for sharing your experiments on FB, it's easier to follow you!

  2. Thanks Nat =) I finally figured out how to add the FB button on the sidebar here...not an easy feat! I've never tried aloe butter either, but it sounds really nice! I have a question, is aloe butter something one could make? For instance, I've seen where you can make coffee butter by blending coffee-infused oil with hydrogenated vegetable oil...I wonder if aloe butter could be made by blending pure aloe gel with coconut oil?

  4. Such a beautiful soap, Cee Gee! I love the colors and the fragrance combo sounds amazing. The Red Currant & Thyme sounds like such an interesting scent as well. I've never tried cherry kernel oil, but it sounds very nice. I've been curious about mango butter, too. I'll have to pick up some more exotic oils and butters once I use up what I've got!

    1. Thanks Jenny! I'm curious to try the cherry kernel oil, I purposely used it at a high percentage hoping that I would be able to notice a difference. I'll try to remember to update once it's cured and ready!

  5. Haven't tried cherry kernel oil either. I wish mango butter and avocado oil as the first ones on the list (among many others, more exotic). But,considering their prices, I really would like to know if there are additional qualities using those in soap. Otherwise, I rather use them for stay-on products.
It's great that you're gonna tell us what cherry kernel feels like in soap.
This soap resembles the swirly one, don't you think? I like the colours and the swirl is great. I bet what that fragrance combo is amazing, too.

    1. I do think it sort of resembles the swirly one...just not as defined as it usually is, but I think it suits this tropical soap. I do notice a definite difference using mango butter in soap; in the mango butter recipe I posted on November 1, I really notice a nice silky feeling to that soap. While I really like using avocado oil in soap, I'm not sure that I've really noticed a huge difference in the lather...maybe I just haven't used it at a high enough %. Argan is probably an oil that is better in a leave-in product, but I'd like to try it in soap just to see. I will try to remember to post the results of the cherry kernel oil once this soap is cured :)

    2. I definitely agree about argan. It is so expensive, but if I had unlimited budget,I use them all for soap, too! :-)

  6. That's such a fun design, I really like how it gave that tie-dye look to your soap. And I have to say what a great scent blend. :)
