Multi Colored Gradient Soap Challenge

Amy Warden’s Soap Challenge for this month was the Multi-Colored Soap Gradient. I’ve never done this type of color technique before, so I was really looking forward to learning how to do this. I went searching for color inspiration and was really taken with the pretty progression from pink to yellow to blue in the middle layers of this picture:

Interestingly, I didn’t realize until later that this was actually a picture of the surface of a soap bubble…coincidence or what?!

I knew I would need a slow-moving recipe for this challenge, so I chose one out of Anne-Marie’s new book, Soap Crafting, and I was not disappointed! I used the recipe for the Tie Dye soap and had plenty of play time. Thankfully the fragrance I used was a slow mover too. Here it is in the mold, just after it was poured:

In her tutorial, Amy had given very detailed instructions on how much soap to separate out for each layer and how much to mix for each gradient color, which I found super helpful. I was very excited to cut this one open to reveal the inside, it’s such a happy soap :)

I know I wouldn’t have been able to pull this off without Amy’s excellent step-by-step instructions, so thank you Amy, I’m really enjoying your monthly challenges!

  3. I have been looking at that soap now for several minutes. So beautiful gradient colors! Did you use lab colors? I tried to count how many layers the soap has, but it is impossible.

    1. I think I had poured 8 layers by the time I was finished! I actually was trying out some wonderful new micas I received, but Lab Colors would be nice too because I think they bleed, so would give a nice gradient effect too.
